Donald McClure, longtime professor in the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University, has been named executive director of the American Mathematical Society.

Applied mathematician David Mumford was in Israel in late May to receive the prestigious Wolf Award; he immediately made a philanthropic gift of his prize money. Next month he’s headed to London for formal admission into the Royal Society.
