Then, new students had to read a book – and send their comments to Brown. What did they have to say?

In a program called “First Readings,” all new and transfer students were asked to do some summer reading. The Dean of the College chose and assigned a book, The Beak of the Finch by Jonathan Weiner, and students were asked to write up their thoughts in the form of a letter to their adviser. Students gathered to discuss the book during Orientation, and that’s when we caught up with a few of them and asked them to share what they wrote.
