University announces presidential inauguration events for January 20

Campus broadcasts and faculty panels will highlight the inauguration of Barack Obama as the nation’s 44th president.

Brown University students, faculty, and staff will be able to participate in a series of campus events on Tuesday, January 20, in connection with this year's historic U.S. presidential inauguration, senior administrators announced today.

The program includes a live broadcast of the proceedings from Washington, D.C.; comments from a Brown historian/librarian; and forums on current issues, featuring Brown faculty.

“We hope you will be able to join the Brown community in noting this moment in our country’s history,” said an e-mailed announcement from Provost David Kertzer, Vice President of Campus Life and Student Services Margaret Klawunn, and Dean of the College Katherine Bergeron.

All events are free and open to the public. Brown staff members are asked to obtain supervisors’ approval prior to attending any of the events.

The inauguration programs are sponsored by the Offices of the Provost, Institutional Diversity, Campus Life and Student Services, Dean of the College, and Public Affairs and University Relations; the Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service; and the Government at Work: Brown Making the Difference program.
